Streamlined Energy and
Carbon Reporting

Voluntary Scope 1 & 2 carbon footprint report.

Streamlined Energy and Carbon Reporting (SECR) is a legislative requirement that creates a standard framework for large businesses to publicly report on their operational energy and carbon footprints.

The legislation requires energy, carbon emissions, an energy intensity metric, energy efficiency narrative, and methodology to be disclosed in annual Director’s Reports. Inspired offers an all-encompassing SECR service that covers all energy and carbon reporting needs.

Inspired’s approach

Inspired’s ESG consultants support businesses through all stages of operational carbon reporting, from data collection to year-on-year improvement of data quality. Support is available through the reporting year for ongoing data collection, and if requested, businesses are able to benchmark progress in carbon reduction on a quarterly basis from the prior year.

Our SECR service can help you:

  • Capture and store your data for reporting
  • Report on your energy and carbon use
  • Highlight energy efficiency measures and drive behavioural changes
  • Increase transparency for investors
  • Complement other compliance and reporting schemes.

Related ESG services

Climate-related financial disclosures (CFD or TCFD)
Scope 1 and 2 emissions are recommended to be included under the TCFD’s ‘Metrics and Targets’ section. As part of Inspired’s Climate-related Financial Disclosure offering, a Scope 1 and 2 emissions inventory is calculated.

Policy Procurement Note 06/21 (Carbon Reduction Plan)
A PPN06/21 Carbon Reduction Plan requires businesses to disclose baseline and recent GHG emissions – including Scope 1 and 2 emissions – targets, and decarbonisation actions. The Scope 1 and 2 emissions required to be disclosed will be calculated, if applicable, as part of Inspired’s SECR service.

Science-Based Target initiative validation support
The Science-Based Target initiative (SBTi) is the internationally recognised body for validating emission reduction targets. Companies going through the SBTi validation process need to provide a full Scope 1 and 2, calculated as per the GHG Protocol guidelines.

Scope 3 emissions inventory
Scope 3 emissions are the emissions associated with all upstream and downstream activities in a company’s value chain and generally account for 60%-99% of a business’s Scope 1, 2, and 3 footprint. Understanding and quantifying all applicable Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions helps businesses to decarbonise and track their climate impact.

Life Cycle Assessments (LCA) / Environmental Product Declarations (EPD)
Life Cycle Assessments (LCA) / Environmental Product Declarations (EPD) allow businesses to demonstrate the environmental impact of the products they sell and are being increasingly requested by ESG-conscious customers. The information and data used to calculate corporate Scope 1 and 2 emissions form the basis of understanding a company’s product-related emissions.

Greenhouse gas emissions verification – ISO 14064
The ISO 14064 standard is a process to verify a company’s greenhouse gas emissions footprint and covers operational as well as value chain emissions. Inspired’s ESG Quality Assurance team can verify the Scope 1 and 2 emissions to provide additional assurance of the calculations and output.

Net-Zero Strategy
Net-zero should be achieved by reducing Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions as far as possible; a Net-Zero Strategy plans for how these reductions will be achieved. Inspired’s Net-Zero Strategy service produces a bespoke decarbonisation plan detailing the actions needed to reduce Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions and achieve net-zero.
